About the Opportunity This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Utilities, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. FEU As an IT Programming & Development Intern at FirstEnergy, you will have an impact on the team's success. Based on your academic discipline, as well as the department and projects you are assigned to, selected candidates will be placed in one of several IT teams that support a number of First Energy Business Units. All internships will be exposed to technical skills and business processes used in the assigned area. Depending upon the assigned area internship activities could include: - Assisting with both technical and testing activities on various development platforms such as JAVAScript, MS.NET, SAP ABAP, C#, VisualBasic, HTML, and XML - Accessing data structures, in particular Oracle, through the use of SQL - Working closely with IT Business Analysts, IT Developers and various FirstEnergy - Business Units as a contributing member of an IT team - Delivering IT solutions which help achieve business goals - Performing work with portals, document management, mobile technologies, SAP and other related deliverables - Collaborating with other FirstEnergy business units, as well as other departments of IT, to complete projects - Completing Process, Integration and Stress testing for application projects or upgrades - Assisting with SAP Security and Release Management activities - Training in the skill sets needed to meet individualized objectives and development needs You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, which is designed to cultivate professional skills and provide professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive a personalized development plan, on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. Qualifications - Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Information Science or related major - Declaration of a software development-related track within one of the academic programs listed above highly preferred - Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 - Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder - Basic computer programming skills, as well as completed coursework in one or more robust coding languages (i.e. JAVA, C++, C#, MS.Net) - Interest and aptitude in software development - Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects, with the aptitude to learn quickly - Ability to work in a virtual environment with remote colleagues utilizing virtual technologies - Sound understanding of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel a...
