Job Duties: This position requires the individual to assist the veterinarians to the fullest possible extent, to help improve the quality of care given to the patients & to aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical and administrative detail. Primary responsibilities are patient care and treatment, monitor hospitalized horses, maintain inventory, prepare prescriptions, perform routine in-house lab work, educate clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, assist with surgical procedures, perform clerical duties related to animal patient care and treatment, knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, data entry, word processing, and a practical knowledge of the standard procedures, veterinary records and terminology used in the hospital. Additional Scheduler duties will include: opening the practice & set up for the morning as directed; welcoming clients and patients to the practice and provide for their comfort while they are in the practice (this will include greeting clients, offering coffee, directing them to the hospital admittance area); answer incoming telephone calls utilizing proper telephone etiquette. Provide knowledgeable sub-professional advice concerning the care and treatment of animals including questions regarding hospital services, fees, animal care and treatment in accordance with hospital policies, appropriately directing other questions and communication to a veterinarian; prepare to receive appointments by retrieving client records and preparing needed forms in advance of clients arrival for haul in appointments. Complete required forms such as new client form, patient visit form, client report, consent forms, estimates, payment agreements, etc and obtain all necessary information. Handle emergency situations by following established clinic policies and procedures in referring clients for immediate treatment of their animals when requests are accompanied by complaints of acute symptoms. Determine nature of injury/illness and attempt to reassure distressed equine owners. Will close the practice for the evening as directed; clean & straighten the public areas of the equine practice including the reception area, waiting area & office; & maintain an up-to-date magazine selection in the waiting area. Please Note: Wage Range: $11.00 -$11.50 per hour based on experience, education, skills & abilities. Qualifications: High School Diploma/ GED. At least 21 years of age and experience with horses/equine healthcare required. Must have a valid driver s license.
