Desired Skills/Duties: PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Replaces and repairs automotive trim and upholstery, including carpets, seats, roof and door linings and interior trim. Manufactures replacement fabric, leather, plastic or vinyl parts to customize or replicate factory appearance. Fit, install, and secure material on frames using hand tools, power tools, glue, etc . Align parts or workpieces to ensure proper assembly. Make, repair, or replace automobile upholstery using knowledge of fabric and upholstery methods. Design upholstery cover patterns and cutting plans, based on sketches, customer descriptions, or scope of work. Prepare fabrics or materials for processing or production. Operate sewing machines or sew upholstery by hand. Measure and cut new covering materials, using patterns and measuring and cutting instruments, following sketches and design specifications. Draw cutting lines on material following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints, using chalk, pencils, paint, or other methods. Draw guide lines or markings on materials or workpieces using patterns or other references. Maintain records of time required to perform each job. Must be flexible to be cross-trained in other departments as needed. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school education or equivalent. Automotive training required. Minimum of 3 years in the trim industry. BASIC SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must enjoy working on automotive upholstery having a mechanical aptitude. Must be a self-starter and self-directed. Must be able to lift, bend and work with heavy vehicle components. Must be able to work in a fast-past environment. Attention to detail. Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed.
